I take it you already know
\nOf tough and bough and cough and dough?
\nOthers may stumble, but not you,
\nOn hiccough, thorough, laugh, and through.
\nWell done! And now you wish perhaps,
\nTo learn of less familiar traps?
\nBeware of heard, a dreadful word,
\nThat looks like beard and sounds like bird.
\nAnd dead\u2014it’s said like bed not bead\u2014
\nAnd for goodness’ sake, don’t call it deed!
\nWatch out for meat and great and threat
\n(they rhyme with suite and straight and debt).<\/p>\n

A moth is not the moth in mother,
\nNor both in bother, broth in brother.
\nAnd here is not a match for there,
\nNor dead and fear or bead and pear.
\nAnd then there’s dose and rose and lose\u2014
\nJust look them up\u2014and goose and choose,
\nAnd cork and work and card and ward,
\nAnd font and front and word and sword,
\nAnd do and go and thwart and cart\u2014
\nCome, Come! I’ve hardly made a start!<\/p>\n

A dreadful language? Man alive!
\nBut I had mastered it when I was five!<\/p>\n
