Come Play With Me<\/span><\/p>\n

Passing through her kitchen,
\nI saw dishes waiting there. . .
\nA basket full of laundry
\nBeside a rocking chair.<\/p>\n

Her house was clean, but much undone-
\nI wondered, “Where is she
\nThat order is not all about
\nAs time approaches three?”<\/p>\n

And then I heard her voice so young,
\nThe house at once was gay. . .
\nAnd I saw her children gathered close
\nTo where she knelt in play.<\/p>\n

She jumped upon her feet in haste,
\nAnd came to welcome me\u2014
\nAnd for the lack of order
\nGave this thoughtful repartee.<\/p>\n

“It seems that work will always wait,
\nWhile time is never still. . .
\nI like to, while my children’s here,
\nDrink of them my fill.<\/p>\n

I know in years ahead they’ll think
\nNot of my work all done,
\nBut how they loved their days at home
\nAnd shared with me their fun.<\/p>\n

And when their paths lie far from mine
\nAnd life can ordered be
\nThe memories of the joys we knew
\nWill be a song for me.<\/p>\n

The song fills a mother’s heart
\nAt end of every day. . .
\nWho never could refuse the plea
\nTo “Come with me and play”.<\/p>\n
