The Family Bible<\/h4>\n

Old Brother Higgins built a shelf
\nFor the family Bible to rest itself
\nLest a sticky finger or grimy thumb
\nMight injure the delicate pages some.
\nHe cautioned his children to touch it not,
\nAnd it rests there still with never a blot . . .
\nAnd the Higgins tribe are a careless lot.<\/p>\n

His neighbor, Miggins, built a shelf.
\n“Come, children,” he said, “and help yourself.”
\nNow his book is old and ragged and worn,
\nWith some of the choicest pages torn
\nWhere children have fingered and thumbed and read;
\nBut of Miggins’ children I’ve heard it said
\nThat each carries a Bible in his head.<\/p>\n
