There is just so much to do today and we are getting tired.\u00a0 Tomorrow is always there, promising more time and new energy. \u00a0Like Annie, it seems we bank our hopes that the \u201csun will come out tomorrow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bad news is that tomorrow just keeps hopping ahead one more day<\/strong>, and some very important things keep getting scheduled for \u201ctomorrow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Louisa had asked for cooking lessons for several YEARS!\u00a0 (Gosh, it hurt me to write that!\u00a0 Could I really have put her off for\u00a0<em>years?!<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>I had some grandiose ideas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>-recipe cards in a cute flip-top recipe box<\/li>\n<li>-little 3-ring-binder that we add one recipe at a time as she learned to cook<\/li>\n<li>-vocabulary terms<\/li>\n<li>-discussion of cooking utensils and equipment<\/li>\n<li>-healthy treat recipes that we invented together<\/li>\n<li>-a syllabus and a plan with weekly hour lessons where we focus on quick breads, then soups, salads, breakfast foods, etc.<\/li>\n<li>-fun, hands-on nutrition lessons<\/li>\n<li>-a cooking class with friends<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>. . . ah, need I go on?<\/p>\n<p>Dreaming,\u00a0<em>dreaming!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Better to do a little than nothing at all.<\/strong> If we wait to pull things together and do them up\u00a0<em>right<\/em>, then very often NOTHING happens.\u00a0 It is scheduled for that ever-fleeting \u201ctomorrow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>So, one day when she was 10, I called Louisa in from play and said, \u201cI want you to follow the recipe and make Cabbage Banana Salad for dinner.\u00a0 I\u2019ll help you if you need me to.\u201d\u00a0 Nothing grandiose.\u00a0 No organization or cute recipe cards needed.\u00a0 Just spur-of-the-moment, practical stuff.<\/p>\n<p>She didn&#8217;t feel confident but the salad got done and a little bonus is that the other family members gave her some kudos for it.\u00a0 And another bonus is that\u00a0<strong>I got a direly needed reminder to myself that it\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0have to be done exactly right<\/strong>\u00a0as long as it is generally edible.\u00a0 She felt good about her effort!\u00a0 Next day I had her make Broccoli Tree Salad.\u00a0 And the following, it was Spinach Salad.
