Today upon a bus I saw
\nA girl with golden hair;
\nShe seemed so gay, I envied her,
\nAnd wish that I were half so fair;
\nI watched her as she rose to leave,
\nAnd saw her hobble down the aisle.
\nShe had one leg and wore a crutch,
\nBut as she passed\u2014a smile.
\nOh, God, forgive me when I whine;
\nI have two legs\u2014the world is mine.<\/p>\n

Later on I bought some sweets.
\nThe boy who sold them had such charm,
\nI thought I’d stop and talk awhile.
\nIf I were late, t’would do no harm.
\nAnd as we talked he said,
\n“Thank you, sir, you’ve really been so kind.
\nIt’s nice to talk to folks like you
\nBecause, you see, I’m blind”
\nOh, God, forgive me when I whine;
\nI have two eyes\u2014the world is mine<\/p>\n

Later, walking down the street,
\nI met a boy with eyes so blue.
\nBut he stood and watched the others play;
\nIt seemed he knew not what to do.
\nI paused, and then I said,
\n“Why don’t you join the others, dear?”
\nBut he looked straight ahead without a word,
\nAnd then I knew, he couldn’t hear.
\nOh, God, forgive me when I whine;
\nI have two ears\u2014the world is mine.<\/p>\n

Two legs to take me where I go,
\nTwo eyes to see the sunset’s glow,
\nTwo ears to hear all I should know,
\nOh, God, forgive me when I whine;
\nI’m blest, indeed, the world is mine.<\/p>\n
