Some houses try to hide the fact
\nThat children shelter there\u2014
\nOurs boasts of it quite openly,
\nThe signs are everywhere<\/p>\n

For smears are on the windows,
\nLittle smudges on the doors;
\nI should apologize, I guess,
\nFor toys strewn on the floor.<\/p>\n

But I sat down with the children
\nAnd we played and laughed and read;
\nAnd if the doorbell doesn’t shine,
\nTheir eyes will shine instead.<\/p>\n

For when at times I’m forced to choose
\nThe one job or the other;
\nI want to be a housewife\u2014
\nBut first I’ll be a mother.<\/p>\n
