I fear<br \/>\nWe could not stand it half a year.<br \/>\nWhat would we talk about at night,<br \/>\nPlan for and work with all our might,<br \/>\nHold common dreams about and find<br \/>\nTrue union of heart and mind,<br \/>\nIf we two had no greater care<br \/>\nThan what we both should eat and wear?<br \/>\nWe never knew love&#8217;s brightest flame<br \/>\nUntil the day the baby came.<br \/>\nAnd now we could not get along<br \/>\nWithout their laughter and their song.<br \/>\nJoy is not bottled on a shelf<br \/>\nIt cannot feed upon itself;<br \/>\nAnd even love, if it shall wear,<br \/>\nMust find its happiness in care<br \/>\nDull we&#8217;d become of mind and speech<br \/>\nHad we no little ones to teach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 270px;\">No children in the house to play!<br \/>\nOh, we could never live that way!<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n\u2014Edgar A.
