Your children are going to love it, and so are you!<\/em><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"subheading\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Assignment #6: Let&#8217;s Sculpt!<\/h4>\n<div class=\"panel\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">First, you need supplies, so put this on your grocery or &#8220;gather&#8221; list so you&#8217;ll be ready to have a good time!<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5879\" style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5879\" class=\" wp-image-5879\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/clayicecream-1.jpg?resize=210%2C269&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Ice cream sandwiches made of clay, look good enough to eat!\" width=\"210\" height=\"269\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ice cream sandwiches made of clay, look good enough to eat!<\/p><\/div>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Supply List<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<strong>1\u2014plastic<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n(plastic $1 tablecloth or old vinyl tablecloth or plastic placemats&#8211;not your best ones)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>2\u2014colored clay<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovetolearn.net\/Bright-Colors-Sculpey-Clay-10-Pack\" target=\"_blank\">Sculpey clay<\/a> or any playdough or\u00a0clay that hardens when it bakes or dries\u00a0is best.\u00a0Make sure your clay is the kind that dries or can be baked to hardness. What fun is it to spend your time creating something wonderful just to smash it when you are done? If it is soft clay, even if you try to preserve it by not touching, it just doesn&#8217;t hold its shape that well, especially when bumped! If you don&#8217;t like collecting too much stuff, your child can give it their creations to someone as a little gift\u00a0with a little card or scripture verse done in their best handwriting!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>3\u2014tools<\/strong><br \/>\nGarlic press, toothpicks, rolling pin, fat pencil to serve as a mini rolling pin, tweezers, kitchen utensils, chop stick, pizza cutter, fork, etc. The more the merrier, as this is where you can really get creative and expressive. A garlic press is hard to clean. If you can find a cheapy one and use it just for clay, you&#8217;ll be happier to sculpt more often! But it makes such great hair or fur that you really can&#8217;t deny yourself of the pleasure of squeezing clay through a garlic press!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>4\u2014ideas<\/strong><br \/>\nPick up an idea book at the library or get out some children&#8217;s coloring books that simplify objects and animals to black line drawings. These ice cream sandwiches\u00a0are made from clay! \u00a0You&#8217;ll find lots more fun in this book: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovetolearn.net\/Make-Clay-Charms\" target=\"_blank\">Clay Charms<\/a>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovetolearn.net\/Make-Clay-Charms\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-5886 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/image-13.png?resize=231%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"image-1\" width=\"231\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Let&#8217;s Sculpt!!<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nLay out a cheap vinyl tablecloth so you can have fun without making a cleaning job for yourself before lunch. You can fold it up and re-use it next time you play clay. If you feel more creative with classical music, put that on too! Start with a newborn in blanket. This will get everyone sculpting and ideas brewing. Think &#8220;small&#8221;. You only need a golf ball size of clay to create something charming! Remember, this activity is for Mom and teenage boys and middle sized girls and little babies and everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here&#8217;s how to <strong>make a Newborn in Blanket<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 1<br \/>\nTake a marble sized ball of clay to roll the head. You can use white with a little pink blended in, or white with a little brown blended in or straight dark brown (depending on skin tones of your baby). Roll this into a ball and set aside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5872\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/clay5babies.jpg?resize=378%2C222&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"clay5babies\" width=\"378\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/clay5babies.jpg?resize=300%2C175&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/clay5babies.jpg?w=343&amp;ssl=1 343w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 378px) 100vw, 378px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 2<br \/>\nGet another marble-size piece of colored clay. In our sample, we mixed white with blue and green flecks of clay. When we rolled it out thin it looked like a blanket. Use a rolling pin or a pencil to roll out the clay very thin. Use a pizza cutter to cut a 3&#8243; square shape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 3<br \/>\nScratch the back surface of the baby&#8217;s head ball to rough it. Scratch the inside upper corner of the blanket on the surface and then press the head on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 4<br \/>\nFold the blanket up from the bottom until the point touches the baby&#8217;s chin. Fold in the side of the blankets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 5<br \/>\nRoll a little pinch of brown, black or blonde colored clay into a little curlicue. Poke a toothpick down to make a hole in the top of the baby&#8217;s head. Stick the piece of &#8220;hair&#8221; into the hold and pinch inside the hole with the end of a toothpick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5877\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/claybaby-2.jpg?resize=175%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"claybaby (2)\" width=\"175\" height=\"300\" \/>Step 6<br \/>\nMake a little teeny ball for a nose and adhere it just like the hair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 7<br \/>\nUsing the end of a pencil or other tool, make a poke for the eyes and mouth of the baby. You can enlarge the mouth into a big crying mouth by wiggling the pencil around to make the hole bigger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bake your baby to permanence and you&#8217;ll have a little creation that makes everyone who sees it go, <em>&#8220;Ooooh, how cute!&#8221;<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now, try this!<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/claypig-2.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5883\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/claypig-2.jpg?resize=248%2C423&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"claypig (2)\" width=\"248\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/claypig-2.jpg?resize=176%2C300&amp;ssl=1 176w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happyhomeschooling.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/claypig-2.jpg?w=294&amp;ssl=1 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/><\/a>Instructions for Sculpting a Pig\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You will need:<br \/>\nA small marble-size ball of pink clay<br \/>\nScraps of pink and black<br \/>\nToothpick or paperclip<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 1<br \/>\nRoll clay into a ball<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 2<br \/>\nMake the face parts:<br \/>\nTriangle ears<br \/>\nRound eyes<br \/>\nNose: a flattened ball with toothpick-drawn nostrils<br \/>\nCurly tail (wrap around a toothpick or wire)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Step 3<br \/>\nBake 30 min at 275 degF\/135 degC<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now, when your creativity is spent, lay your objects carefully on a cookie sheet to bake or dry. FUN!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your kids are going to be asking when you are sculpting next!
